150. Fast Friday: 10 Habits That Threaten Your Relationships with Marisa Peer Part II

What makes a successful relationship?

In today’s episode, I will be reading to you from “Ultimate Confidence: The Secrets to Feeling Great about Yourself Every Day” by Marisa Peer. This will be Part II of a multi-episode Fast Friday series inspired by Marisa, so stay tuned!

The practice of giving and receiving love is laden with valuable (and oftentimes challenging!) lessons that compel us all to confront our deepest fears and unconscious mechanisms. This is Earth School, after all! Though each relationship – be it romantic, platonic, or familial – is beautifully unique in its own way, there are some well-defined red flags that we must recognize and avoid if we hope to build healthy relationships:

Stop stonewalling

Avoid contempt, scorn, mockery & superiority

Avoid destructive criticism

Steer clear of hitting below the belt

Avoid defensiveness

Stop referencing the past and past wrongdoings

Understand the damage that results from threatening to leave the relationship

Avoid the wrong roles in the relationships

Avoid exaggerations and generalizations

Don’t make your rules more important than your relationship
