99. Living Like You Mean It, Overcoming Destination Addiction and Enjoying the Journey With Dr. Robert Holden & Amy Fournier

Destination addiction is something we’ve all experienced at one point or another. It’s a concept sold to us daily by our own society: you need “that THING” to feel fulfilled, accomplished and happy. That relationship! That house! That outfit! That money in your bank account! That training program! That body weight! That career! That vacation! …and so we urgently rush through each moment, holding chronic tension in our bodies as we work or distract our lives away in dogged pursuit of an imagined future event, identity or accomplishment.

Listen: the grass is green where you are NOW. The present moment is widely overlooked in our daily lives– despite the fact that each moment is your life. Does each day consist of rushing from place to place, inhaling your food as quickly as possible and squishing your entire life into a tiny schedule to save time? You’re probably a victim of destination addiction!

The term “destination addiction” was coined by motivational speaker and bestselling author Dr. Robert Holden in his fantastic book titled “Success Intelligence.” In this solo episode, you’ll hear about some of the key ideas in this book and my takeaways and reflections on the idea of destination addiction: What are the symptoms of destination addiction? How is this idea embedded in the English language? Is it possible to enjoy a transformational journey or process, despite the pain of growth and change?
