For the past 9 months now, I’ve been learning so much and loving how much I am expanding my emotional and spiritual growth and understanding with my studies of the ancient cultures of Peruvian Shamanistic wisdom and way of life.
One concept that resonates with my in particular is the concept of “Ayni” (pronounced: “eye” “knee”).
Ayi is a spiritual principle practiced among the Peruvian people for centuries that involves the concept and Universal Law of Reciprocity among all things and Nature. The Law of Ayni states that everything in the world is connected and designed to be in a relationship of balance thus promoting a reverence and deep respect for not only all life but also the two-way nature of things.
This principle is better know in the West as the Law of Giving and Receiving. Which basically states that in order to properly fulfill and complete the natural order of things, or “cycle”, we must not only give but also receive, for it completes the cycle – if not, the natural flow and order of things is diminished and whatever action or intention can not be sustained.- I know many of us Reformed People-Pleasers have a hard time with this one!;)
Anyi has taught me to be much more aware of all the thousands of simple yet powerful “gifts” I “receive” from the world every day, and how I can then transform them once they join with my body and spirit by using them and “giving them back” by creating something new. You see, this way we are not depleted and diminished when we give for there is an endless supply available to us! As a result, I’ve found I feel much more supported in life and so humbled and appreciative.
When we live with gratitude for every single thing – especially the little things, that somehow “give” to our lives in some way- whether it be by taking a moment to pause before a meal and thank your food for making you healthy and strong and able to have energy and think clearly or thanking the sun for warming your skin and making the trees and flowers, Anyi can teach us to be much more aware of all the thousands of simple yet powerful “gifts” we “receive” from the world every day, and then how we can transform them by then joining them with our body and spirit and give back by creating something new.
Try this and as a result, you might find that like me, you’ll feel much more supported in life and quite humbled and appreciative at the beauty and simple power of it all.
So I encourage you to try it for yourself: Practice Sacred Reciprocity: Anyi, and watch for the shifts and miracles to begin! 😉
