Are All Your “Bodies” Fit? Building Your Energy Centers: An Introduction to Your Energetic Body and Your Chakras

We are all familiar with our physical bodies, like our arms, legs, skin stomach, hair, nails, etc, but what if I told you that that’s not the only “body” you have? What if you learned that you have, in fact, not one “body” but seven?!

With the help of Quantum Physics, we now have the hard science to back up what mystics and ancient healing medicine practices like Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Ayurvedic Medicine have taught for centuries: that when it comes to who and what we are, there’s a lot more than just what meets the eye!

In fact, similar to how the human eye can only see a small amount of the light frequencies in the full light spectrum, most of what we “are” is in fact, invisible to our human eyes. This is because we are actually not “physical matter” at all, but rather spinning frequencies of energy that are vibrating at various speeds.

…que Albert Einstein’s definition of energy:

E = MC2!

This equation means: “Energy equals mass times the speed of light squared”, or energy and mass (matter) are interchangeable – they are simply different forms of the same thing.

So basically this means we are just one big “battery” that likes to listen to upbeat music, play outside in the sunshine and bing watch Netflix from time to time! 😉

Say Hello To Your 7 Energy Bodies

In addition to the physical body we all know and love, like layers of an onion, there are seven other layers of bodies known as our energetic or subtle bodies. It is through an understanding of these bodies that we learn about the Chakras and our 7 major energy centers of ourselves.

  • The Etheric Body – First Layer.
  • The Emotional Body – Second Layer.
  • The Mental Body – Third Layer.
  • The Astral Level – Fourth Layer.
  • The Etheric Template Body – Fifth Layer.
  • The Celestial Body – Sixth Layer.
  • The Casual Body or Ketheric Template – Seventh Layer.

According to Wikipeida, a subtle body is one of a series of psycho-spiritual constituents of living beings, according to various esoteric, occult, and mystical teachings. The subtle body consists of focal points, often called chakras, connected by channels, often called nadis, that convey subtle breath (with names such as prana or vayu).

An Intro to Chakras: Chakras 101

“Chakra” is a Sanskrit word that means “wheel” or “disk”. As energy centers that exist in our energetic bodies, I like to think of them as ultimate merger of the psychosomatic essence!

Think of a chakra as a swirling wheel of energy where matter and consciousness meet. This invisible energy, called Prana/Chi as is your vital “life force”- it’s what keeps you vibrant, healthy, and alive. Each of the 7 main chakras is associated with specific nerve plexus, major organ, color, sound, element, and psychological and emotional states and therefore energetically associated with our psychological, emotional, and spiritual states of being (as you will see below).

Although we can’t surgically remove them like a gallbladder, or a kidney, the chakra centers are scientifically proven to exist in the subtle body and thus are highly influenced by vibration. *This why Sound Healing is so powerful and effective because it brings harmony and ease to the cells and organs of the body thru our energetic/chakra centers (this is why we all love the Healing Circle Experience each month!)

I like to tell my students to think of chakras like the “organs” of the Energetic/Subtle Body – kinda like how the heart, liver, etc are organs of the physical body. According to author and chakra expert, Anodea Judith, chakras describe the “architecture of the soul” in that they are the organizational “centers” of the soul/body for handling energy on different levels.

Some Main Points to Keep In Mind

  • Functioning like little radios inside you: Chakras  SEND AND RECEIVE INFORMATION – remember: the energetic body operates on frequencies and vibrations that are “invisible” to our human eyes
  • The chakras can either be BALANCED OR UNBALANCED in this flow of sending and receiving energy – Meaning, they can either be “blocked”/“deficient” or “too open”/“excessive”.
  • The goal is to allow, promote and maintain harmony and resonance among all chakras which we think of as “ease” v. “disease” – this is why I try to teach people how to live a healthy lifestyle – so we can stop doing things that are getting in the way of our natural flow, freedom and good feeling and functioning!

Examples of Imbalanced or Blocked Chakras

  • Frequent constipation can indicate a blockage in the first chakra
  • Excessive anxiety or worry can be signs of a weak or blocked first chakra
  • Trouble losing belly fat can indicate a low sense of self-power or control
  • A recurring sore throat or unexplained horse voice leaves clues to a blocked fifth chakra.
  • Chronic headaches around the area of the forehead may mean your sixth chakra is blocked.

Summary of Each Chakra

Here is a brief summary of each of the seven main chakras.

Take a look and think about what areas of your body and your LIFE that you might be having issues with – and be sure to check out the resources below for more info – or maybe I’ll see you at my next LIVE workshop or online webinar or coaching call! 🙂

First Chakra: ROOT – COLOR: RED– Is the center of stability, security, and our basic needs. It encompasses the first three vertebrae, the bladder, and the colon. When this chakra is open, we feel safe and fearless. It represents our foundation and feeling of being grounded. When this chakra is open, we feel safe and fearless.

Location: Base of spine in tailbone area and first three vertebrae, the bladder, and the colon.

Emotional issues: Survival issues such as financial independence, money and food.

Second Chakra: SACRAL – COLOR: ORANGE – Is the center of creativity and sexuality. It is located above the pubic bone, below the navel, and is responsible for our creative expression. It is our center of connection and ability to accept others and new experiences.

Location: Lower abdomen, about two inches below the navel and two inches in.

Emotional issues: Sense of abundance, well-being, pleasure and sexuality.

Third Chakra: SOLAR PLEXUS – COLOR: YELLOW– the area from the navel to the breastbone. The third chakra is our source of personal power. It is associated with our ability to be confident and in control of our lives.

Location: Upper abdomen in the stomach area: the area from the navel to the breastbone.

Emotional issues: Self-worth, self-confidence and self-esteem.

Fourth Chakra: HEART – COLOR: GREEN – This chakra is distinct because it is thought to be the connection between matter/the physical (bottom 3 charkas) and the spirit (top 3 chakras), and thus being the bridge between the body, mind, emotions, and spirit. The heart chakra is our source of love and connection: both giving AND receiving love and our ability to do so both in balance and unconditionally.

Location: Center of chest just above the heart.

Emotional issues: Love, joy and inner peace.

Fifth Chakra: THROAT – COLOR: BLUE – Located in the area of the throat, this is our source of verbal expression and the ability to speak our highest truth and our overall ability to communicate in both listening and speaking. (*and  this can often mean SPEAKING OUR TRUTH …in love!) The fifth chakra includes the neck, thyroid, and parathyroid glands, jaw, mouth, and tongue.

Location: Throat.

Emotional issues: Communication, self-expression of feelings and the truth.

Sixth Chakra: THIRD EYE – COLOR: INDIGO – Located between the eyebrows, this is our center of intuition. Are you listen to and living from the higher guidance of your intuition and have the courage to heed its warnings? It also involves our ability to focus on and see the big picture and involves the usage of our 5 senses and cognitive functions.

Location: Forehead between the eyes (also called the Brow Chakra).

Emotional issues: Intuition, imagination, wisdom and the ability to think and make decisions.

Seventh Chakra: CROWN – COLOR: PURPLE – Known as the “thousand petal lotus”, this chakra is located at the crown of the head. It is the chakra of enlightenment and spiritual connection to our higher selves, others, and ultimately, to the divine. It represents our ability to be fully connected spiritually.

Location: The very top of the head.

Emotional issues: Inner and outer beauty, our connection to spirituality and pure bliss.

Conclusion

There you have it!

I hope this brief introduction to the world of your Energetic Body has opened up your mind and awareness to the fact that you are so much more than just what you “see”…AND…that this could quite possibly be part of the reason that your “healthy diet and exercise” program is not getting you the results you want – because you are not considering all parts of yourself!

To live a life where we are everything we are meant to be requires that we tap into ALL of our selves and the resources available to us. This includes an awareness of both the parts of us that we see and can’t see. Once we get all systems onboard, by utilizing and integrating ourselves fully, is when we can start to create the changes and the life we want!

Now that’s empowering! 🙂
