Getting the Most Out of Virtual Classes!

Hello Friend!

In this blog post I thought I’d share with you some tips on how to get the most out of your online workouts so you can keep exercise, and moving your body, a part of your lifestyle and so we can continue to stay connected.

We are certainly all learning as we go in this new virtual environment and I welcome any tips and tricks you’d like to share too we can help each other live fit, happy and free…thank you in advance!:)

  1. Wear appropriate athletic shoes. Most of us are working out from home and not on flooring that is meant for impact or shock absorption so ensuring high-quality footwear is key to prevent injury or unnecessary aches and pains later or certainly long-term.
  2. Have water and a towel nearby and if taking a yoga, stretch & mobility class or one of the strength or circuit classes, make sure all the necessary equipment is readily accessible so you don’t disrupt your flow or miss anything because you got to go get it!
  3. Establish a clear space and survey the surroundings quickly before the start of each class and remove any potential trip hazard and anything that will distract you from the experience…remember, this is YOUR TIME – the dog, kids, phone call can wait!
  4. Having a good internet connection is key. If you’re using a desktop or laptop, consider using an ethernet cable rather than wireless for the connection. It will really help the quality. Also be sure to disable all other wireless devices  during class time. If others in your household are on wireless at the same time it will reduce the quality of your signal. Ask them to log off until class is over.
  5. Establish your Zoom account ahead of time and log in as a trial run to be sure you are set up OK.
  6. Once you are in the class, mute yourself for the best music experience and so as not to disrupt others. Also pin me (my video) so you can see as well as possible.
  7. Refresh the page if your screen freezes.
  8. If your taking a LIVE class, about 5-10 minutes prior to class time, log with the Zoom link that was emailed to you when you registered for the class. You will be admitted to the Waiting Room. Shortly before class time, you will be admitted.
  9. If you are watching the On Demand playback, most likely you will see a black screen for a bit as people are entering the online studio. If you want to skip this to save time, simply forward the video.
  10. Be sure to turn your volume up so you can really hear and feel the music or consider getting attached speakers that you can plug into your device.
  11. LIVE classes use a lot of bandwidth. If the class choppy or freezing, try refreshing your screen and see tips #4 and #7. You can also try a different browser. In addition, you can check your connection speed at www.speedtest.net4.
  12. Most importantly, HAVE FUN and try to use your imagination to transport you to being physically in person with me and everyone else in the class…or on stage! This is key and will take your overall enjoyment of the workout to a whole other level, as well as elevate your physical intensity and execution of the movements (it’s what I always do!;))

Can’t wait to “see” you in class!!
