One thing that I’ve learned in my over 30 years of experience in the fields of wellness and self-development, is that being fit on both the inside and the outside, involves a lot more than just counting calories and working out all the time – certainly if you plan on sustaining it for the long-term AND enjoying it!
I have written many blog and social media posts on the subjects of electromagnetic bio-fields, natural light, connecting with Nature and breathing clean, fresh air. They are not only very near and dear to my heart but unfortunately also extremely under-valued areas of physical and emotional wellness in today’s culture.
One thing to remember is: We are creatures both from and of our environment, and we interact with it often in ways we are not even aware of – some good, some bad.
Things like electromagnetic rays (EMR) and electromagnetic fields (EMF) – both natural and artificial, have extremely powerful and direct effects on every cell and function of our bodies as I mention in further detail in my eBook: Foundations In Fitness Fat Loss Guide!
When we learn that our electromagnetism and the environment around us is just as important and influential on our body weight, size and shape, mood and energy level as our diet, exercise, sleep and biochemistry, then we really start to open the doors to becoming the Masters of ourselves and our life.
We are designed to wake and sleep with the rhythms of the planet, the sun, moon and the seasons. This is how humans have lived for millions of years. It’s important to remember that biologically our bodies are still the same as they were thousands of years ago and our bodies don’t care that we want to stay up and watch Netflix will 2am in the morning or that we never go outside or that social media is addictive. Our genes can’t adapt that quickly. Our culture is SO different yet our genes are relatively the same and are very slow to change. Ignoring this fact is when we have problems. We are basically Cavewomen with good shoes and a blow out!
Facts are our ancestors rose with the sun and went to sleep soon after dark. They didn’t stay up for hours at night staring at a computer, iPhone or TV screen and with bright florescent lights blasting in their homes or work. Nor did they need alarm clocks to wake or have 3 cups of coffee to get going in the morning.
Waking when the sun rises and going to sleep soon after the sun sets is critical to regulate all the natural body processes and functions as well as to normalize blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, hormones and body fat.
And the more we can design our lives to be closer in harmony with how we evolved to live, based on our biological needs and in sync with those rhythms, the healthier, happier and more fit we will be – naturally and easily!
I’ll also add, that you want to be sure to get a minimum of at least 20 minutes of direct, natural sunlight on your skin per day and preferably without wearing sunglasses so the full light spectrum can reach your retina. And PLEASE do not use dangerous chemically-laden, artificial sunscreens. They are not only toxic to you and the planet and animals but will block your body from getting the full light spectrum all your cells require to function properly. Just be sure not to burn and use your head!
For double bonus points, get your daily dose of natural and direct sunlight while out in nature and with your bare feet in direct contact with the ground/Earth. This must to help regulate your natural electromagnetic and biorhythms, your hormones, sleep, mood, reduce anxiety, drain stress and increase natural energy reserves. Even just 10-15 minutes of direct contact can do wonders so please try it and make it a regular habit – think of it like taking your “Nature Vitamins” or Mother Nature’s “medicine”! 🙂
