Wanna drop 2-3 pounds instantly? Check your SODIUM intake!
If you are someone who FREAKS OUT in the morning ‘cuse you step on the scale and it’s up 2, 3 or even 4lbs overnight then you need to start being more aware of your daily salt intake!
I like to say to watch for the 3 “P’s”: That’s anything:
- Packaged
- Processed
- Prepared
Foods that fall in one of the 3 “P’s” categories are just about guaranteed to be high in sodium and that will make you retain extra water (i.e. weight) and make you feel bloated and yucky!
Yes, sodium is a vital electrolyte for the body but the average adult needs only approx 1,500 mg of sodium per day and 2,300 is the upper limit. Once you start to read labels you will be SHOCKED how extra sodium is everywhere and how high your intake probably is!
So try it for one day.
And be sure to look at all labels and add up exactly how much you are consuming, and don’t forget to include all:
- Restaurant meals
- Condiments
- Soups
- Graveys
- Sauces (especially soy sauce)
- Protein bars
- Take-out or prepared meals
- Deli counter foods and meats
- Bread and baked goods
- Anything packaged, wrapped or canned
- and of course if adding salt and seasonings at the table or when cooking
